North East Cell
Purvasha, The North East Cell
Purvasha, the North East Cell of Daulat Ram College has entered into a new decade, after completing ten years of glorious existence, excelling in diverse activities. It gives me immense delight that I got the opportunity of serving as the first Nodal Officer of the Cell in its initiation in 2014, and have served as the Nodal Officer for the new decade, 2024-25 as well.
During the last ten years we have proved our mantle in various extra curricular activities such as dance, music, sports as well as in academics and research. The annual publication of the NECell, Puhor provides a glimpse of our strivings and achievements.
The outgoing year was full of activities. On 30th April 2024, Purvasha bade farewell to one of its sincere and dedicated faculty members, Dr. Deepak Naorem, who left DRC to join Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai.
Keeping the spirit of mutual help and support alive, our students set up a Help Desk for NE students as well as students from Sikkim and Ladakh and helped them in whatever way possible during the admissions to undergraduate courses.
To understand the intersectionalities of art, aesthetics, society and culture with our everyday existence and strivings, Purvasha organised a Movie Screening cum Interaction Session in which the widely applauded film "Bulbul can Sing" was screened. The event saw an enthusiastic participation and was spread headed by Dr. Shyamalima Borgohain on 28th September 2024.
We organised a session on "Capacity Building and Skill Enhancement among North Eastern Students" on 18th November 2024, with a seasoned academician and an administrator for the benefit of the students who aspire to excel in academics and admistrative positions. Our distinguished guests were Smt. Indra Mallo, Joint Secretary, National Authority of Chemical Weapons Convention, and Prof. Sasanka Deka, Professor of Chemistry, DU and Deputy Director, University Instruments Science Centre. It turned out to be an engaging session with numerous queries from the aspirants.
In addition to these, Purvasha felt the necessity of connecting our students to the larger world outside. Therefore, it organised a community outreach programme, "Warm Cloth Donation Drive", from 25-27 November, 2024, with the intention of extending help to the underprivileged as temperature gradually plummeted with the onset of winter. The Donation Drive was launched in collaboration with NESSDU (North-East Students’ Society, University of Delhi) and ASUD (Arunachal Students’ Union Delhi). Purvasha received a generous collection of sweaters, jackets, blankets, socks etc. from the staff and students of the college. The members of the cell segregated the donations into different boxes on November 28, 2024 and submitted them at Srimanta Shankardev Bawan, R.K. Puram at the collection centre
The Annual Extracurricular Activities extravaganza, Kherengbar'25 was organised at a grand scale on 1st March in the Sadbhavna Bhawan.
Our guests for the occasion, Ms.Phangnon Konyak, Member of Parliament, RS and our alumna, Dr. Mitali Barman Kalita and Dr. Ahanthem Homen Singh, both Assistant Professors in the Dept of MIL & LS, and Mr. Joram Maivio from the Ministry of Home Affairs highlighted the necessity of an awareness of the cultural diversity of our country and the possibilities for growth of our younger generation in that context. The intercollege competitions witnessed a large number of participants from various academic institutions, making it a grand success.
Purvasha aims at many more decades of fruitful existence, with a memorable journey of celebration as well as excellence in every possible facet of life.
