The department, established in 1964, is one of the oldest Sanskrit Departments in the University of Delhi. It encourages revisiting the ancient treatises and theories with modern approach. The department offers courses like Yoga, Vedic Mathematics, Ayurveda, Vastu, etc in all three mediums – Hindi, Sanskrit and English. It introduces various genres of Sanskrit literature, from the Vedas to the contemporary novels, haikus, etc highlighting the incredible quality and prosperity of the knowledge produced in India. The students interested in teaching can go for B.Ed. or can pursue further studies. They can opt for career in Civil Services, Journalism, Law, Human Resource Management, Translation, Architecture, Astrology, Epigraphy, Manuscriptology, etc. The students also have advantage in SSC and can act as Language Officer in Banks, PSUs, etc. The active students’ association Shreyas encourages leadership qualities and competitive spirit in the students through various extra-curricular activities. The department also holds tutorials for the Post-Graduate students which are supplementary to the lectures held in the Department of Sanskrit, University of Delhi.
