About the Department


The Department of Zoology at Daulat Ram College was established in 1968 and currently holds the Star Department Status recognized by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. The department offers undergraduate courses for B.Sc. (Hons.) Zoology and B.Sc. Life Science in association with the Department of Botany and the Department of Chemistry. The course covers areas in field of Classical Zoology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Evolutionary Biology, Developmental Biology, Animal Behavior and Reproductive Biology.

The Department has well equipped, spacious, air-conditioned laboratories with LCD projectors, Reading Rooms, Computer Lab with Internet Facility and a state of art Zoology Museum. Department maintains its own library with a good collection of books. Department has a Drosophila Resource Center where students can learn the basics of Drosophila research.

The Zoology Department has a team of skillful and enthusiastic faculty members with diverse specializations namely Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Reproductive Biology, Toxicology, Entomology, Behavioral biology, and Neuroendocrinology. They venture beyond the boundaries of the classroom to help and groom students to attain their maximum potential. Apart from teaching, faculty members mentor students in undergraduate research. The students are often taken on field trips, visits to research labs and excursion tours for practical learning outside the confines of the classroom. The energetic and young non-teaching staff assists teachers with all of the students' teaching and learning activities.

The Zoological Society “Koshika'' is an active student body that conducts a variety of academic and extracurricular activities at the National and International levels with the aim of holistic development of students.

Every year our students achieve University ranks and various scholarships. They bring laurels to the college not only in academics but also in the extra-curricular activities. Our alumni are settled in various Central and CSIR laboratories, Indian administrative services, US federal services and are also part of research teams in many International Universities. The Department’s objective is to promote a learning environment that is active, constructive, goal oriented, investigative and meaningful. Faculty members are actively involved in Research in various domains like public health, Drosophila as model organism, uses of nanotechnology and tissue culture to study the characteristics of cancer disease.
