About the Department

The Department of Commerce was founded in the year 1969 with B.Com. The Department expanded to offer B. Com(H) in 1976 and B.A(Prog) in 1986 with commerce subject. All these courses inculcate in students, the knowledge, analytical skills, managerial skills and creative application of their learnings in pursuing their professional and social goals. The students are trained to unravel the contemporary realities of the dynamic business arena. They study subjects like Accounting, Taxation, Management, Marketing, Finance, Law, Human Resource Management, Mathematics and Statistics etc. They acquire theoretical and practical skills necessary to survive and grow in the digital economic environment. This provides the foundation for students to pursue professional courses such as CA, CS, ICWA, CFA, LLB, and MBA etc. to become future business leaders.

Commerce Department is the largest in the college with dedicated, experienced, and research-oriented faculty specializing in diverse areas like Finance, Marketing, Accounting, Organisational Behaviour and Taxation etc. Most of them are Ph.Ds and hold additional professional qualifications enabling them to guide and mentor the students in pursuing their career goals and help them in realising their potential. Our faculty members have undertaken several projects awarded by Institute of Eminence (IOE), Delhi University (Star innovation project) and Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR).

We aim at harnessing full human potential and holistic-development. We offer multi-disciplinarity approach through Generic Elective, skill enhancement and value addition courses, in order to nurture the intellectual, personal, interpersonal and social skills of students. Commerce Association works for student enrichment by conducting events throughout the year. It organises the Annual Commerce Fest ‘Comvision’, which provides students with a platform to showcase and develop their talent and creativity by organising and participating in events such as Business Plan, Debate, Group Discussion, Case Study, Ad-Mad etc. ‘Combuzz’ is the annual newsletter of the department where the students share their thoughts, innovative ideas and perspectives about the commerce landscape. Skill development programmes, seminars and workshops are organized for students on various contemporary topics. Students maintain excellent results with university top positions.

The Commerce department has a major role in the management of the Placement Cell of the college. Our students get placed in reputed companies with average package of Rs 5-8 LPA. Students are also provided with ample internship opportunities. The alumnae of the department have attained great heights of success, achieving much acclaim and recognition in their careers. Our alumnae share a strong bond and fond association with the department and they actively participate in guiding the future generation of under graduate students.
