The Department of Zoology at Daulat Ram College was established in 1968 and currently holds the Star Department Status recognized by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. The department offers undergraduate courses for B.Sc. (Hons.) Zoology and B.Sc. Life Science in association with the Department of Botany and the Department of Chemistry. The course covers areas in the field of Classical Zoology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Evolutionary Biology, Developmental Biology, Animal Behavior and Reproductive Biology.

The Department has well-equipped, spacious, air-conditioned laboratories with LCD projectors, Reading Rooms, Computer Lab with Internet Facility and an up-to-date Zoology Museum. The department maintains its own library with a good collection of books. The department has a Drosophila Resource Center and aquaculture labs where students can learn the basics of Drosophila research and fish rearing.

The Zoology Department has a team of skillful and enthusiastic faculty members with diverse specializations namely Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Reproductive Biology, Toxicology, Entomology, Behavioral Biology, and Neuroendocrinology. They venture beyond the boundaries of the classroom to help and groom students to attain their maximum potential. Apart from teaching, faculty members mentor students in undergraduate research. The students are actively involved in various types of research funded by UGC, DBT and the College itself under the Navdhara scheme. The students are often taken on field trips, visits to research labs and excursion tours for practical learning outside the confines of the classroom. The energetic and young non-teaching staff assists teachers with all of the students' teaching and learning activities. The Zoological Society “Koshika'' is an active student body that conducts a variety of academic and extracurricular activities at the National and International levels with the aim of holistic development of students.

Within the B.Sc. Zoology curriculum, the National Education Policy (NEP) provides a versatile framework, aligning with changing student aspirations and incorporating research. Courses are designed to assimilate recent advancements, fostering skill enhancement through research integration. This initiative aims to elevate student understanding and uphold the standard of Zoology programs across the country.

The Zoology curriculum is structured to attain targeted learning outcomes, focusing on adaptable syllabi and innovative teaching strategies. Its core aim is to enhance students' subject expertise and foster critical thinking for Zoological problem-solving. Graduates emerge equipped for careers in academia, industry, and research, possessing analytical, scientific, and reflective thinking skills. Additionally, the curriculum emphasizes digital literacy, effective problem-solving, social competence, ethical awareness, and leadership qualities, ensuring students develop a lifelong learning attitude essential for various roles in classical and applied Zoology domains.

Every year our students achieve University ranks and various scholarships. They bring laurels to the college not only in academics but also in extra-curricular activities. Our alumni are settled in various Central and CSIR laboratories, Indian administrative services, and US federal services and are also part of research teams in many International Universities. The Department’s objective is to promote a learning environment that is active, constructive, goal-oriented, investigative, and meaningful. Faculty members are actively involved in Research in various domains like public health, Drosophila as a model organism, and applications of nanotechnology on tissue to study the characteristics of cancer disease and ways to combat it.
